This week, 14850 Dining is spending a night in Bombay thanks to a pop-up dinner this Thursday at Lot 10. This Cayuga Street eatery's kitchen closed last year, but they're still open for drinks and music, so it makes a great venue for special theme meals like this one.

Back when the BoatYard Grill opened, just over a decade ago, chef Larry DiFolco was at the helm, and built a menu for the lakeside restaurant with a focus on fresh fish and seafood, steaks, salads, and sandwiches. After a stint in San Diego, Larry returned to Ithaca this fall, and he's helped revamp the eatery's menu.

This week, we're visiting the Small Mall in Ithaca's Northeast for a bite at the Scale House Brewpub. The Scalehouse is attached to Northeast Pizza, adding a pub-style dining room with a snazzy bar. The pizzeria side used to be Rogan's Northeast, and if you go back even further, it was a Dominos franchise. Walk in today and you can still order a pizza or sub at the counter and sit down to enjoy it.

Ithaca Restaurant Week kicks off with events and specials running through next weekend

You already know we love the Ithaca area's great selection of eateries, and for the next week, we're pleased to see some entertaining events and tempting specials that will help introduce local diners to restaurants they may not have gotten around to trying yet. Ithaca Restaurant Week runs December 1st through 9th, and not just restaurants but wineries and bars, as well, are getting involved.

This week, we're warming up with a hot cup of coffee at one of Ithaca's many cafes. That classic ten-ounce paper cup of hours-old corner-store coffee you see on "Law & Order" just doesn't do it any more; actually, even the corner store is probably brewing something pretty good these days.

In Ithaca, the two biggies are Gimme! Coffee and the Ithaca Coffee Company, local roasters with years of experience and some great products. They each have their own cafes, and they each also supply other shops in town.
