The Ithaca Farmers Market returned from its winter hideaway to Steamboat Landing this past Saturday, and tomorrow, the Farmers Market at Cornell will open on the Ag Quad for four Thursdays in a row. The first signs of spring produce are welcome after an unusually long, and unusually cold, winter.
The Farmers Market at Cornell. 14850 Photo.Cornell students began running an on-campus farmers market in 2011, as a way for students and faculty at the school to get easy access to fresh produce without worrying about transportation to off-campus market sites. "We noticed that it is sometimes difficult for students without the necessary transportation to access fresh local produce," organizer Angira Jhaveri told us in 2012.
Vendors at the on-campus market, which will be open from 11am-3pm on Thursdays through May 1st between Kennedy Hall and Mann Library off Tower Road, include the student-run Dilmun Hill Farm, Indian "street food" vendor Sadya Snacks, Tellez's Mexican Grill, HoneyRock Farm, Ithaca Hummus Co., The Art and Found, and the Cornell Bread Club.
The Ithaca Farmers Market is now open Saturdays through December at Steamboat Landing, and will be open Sundays from May through October. Downtown hours resume on Tuesdays from May through October, and on Thursdays from June through October. The East Hill market will run from 4-7pm on Wednesdays from June through October.
