Everyone loves macaroni and cheese, and Ithaca-area restaurants and chefs will get another chance to show off their macaroni and cheese specialties at this Saturday's Foodnet fundraiser. The third annual Mac 'n Cheese Bowl, associated with the national March for Meals campaign of the Meals on Wheels Association of America, is this Saturday afternoon at the Ithaca High School cafeteria.
Last year's Mac 'n Cheese Bowl. 14850 Photo.Prizes will be awarded for the best vegetarian and best fish/meat/poultry dishes, and there's a Kid's Choice Award, for which kids ages 5-12 will be able to vote for their favorites.
This year, there are even vegan and gluten free offerings, so those with limited diets can try some mac 'n cheese, too.
Foodnet Meals on Wheels executive director Steve Griffin says the Bowl fits the organization's mission perfectly. "It affords our organization an opportunity to connect our mission as a meal provider for needy older residents to an activity where the emphasis is on a nutritious, much-loved dish," he says. "We are using our Mac 'n Cheese Bowl to raise awareness of senior hunger and raise money to help us carry out our mission."
Participating in the event are Agava, Bandwagon Brewpub, Brookdale Ithaca, Cayuga Medical Center, Coltivare, Cornell Catering, Crossroads Bar & Grille, Foodnet Meals on Wheels, Gola Osteria, GreenStar Natural Food Market, Ithaca Ale House, Kilpatrick's Publick House, Lansing Market, Longview, Red’s Place, Rogues' Harbor Inn, and ZaZa's Cucina.
The Mac 'n Cheese Bowl is 11:30am-2:30pm on Saturday, March 12th, at the Ithaca High School cafeteria at 1401 North Cayuga Street.
