This week the 14850 Dining Report is trying out Mo's Pit BBQ and Cowboy Cuisine, the latest eatery to arrive in the food court at the Shops at Ithaca Mall. Mo's has BBQ sandwiches, platters, and even burritos and tacos.
Mo's Pit BBQWe began with a pulled pork sandwich, a generous heap of moist, slow-cooked pork that we just wish had more flavor of its own. It's great with some of the hot BBQ sauce added. Other sandwiches include a similar BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, and Hofmann hot dogs, ranging in price from 2.50 to 4.50.
A nice surprise was the pork rib on the snack menu for just $2.50. It's fall-off-the-bone tender like a rib should be, and flavorful all by itself. A few of those and some cole slaw would make a great meal, and you're still under ten bucks.
Even better was the chipotle chicken burrito, really a simple burrito with rice, lettuce, tomato, hot salsa, and not much else, but just four bucks with beef, carnitas, or that delicious spicy, smoky chicken. Not a huge burrito, but again, just four bucks, and plenty for a meal with one of their buck-fifty side dishes, like creamy macaroni and cheese.
One big thing that's missing is proper southern iced tea, but we'll forgive them that. One of these days we need to run up the lake to try the original Mo's Pit BBQ in the village of Cayuga, but for now, it's nice to have BBQ close to home. It's right next to the Sears entrance, at the old location of Sicilian Delight, which is now a few storefronts away. Plan on spending four to ten bucks on a meal at Mo's Pit BBQ. Check them out in the Shops at Ithaca Mall and tell them you heard about them here.
